Here’s the skinny, from founder Ben Stallings:
I’ve been asked about the company name many times. People have guessed I ride a Harley, or it has something to do with my 2X shirts. Here is the real scoop:
Many years ago my Uncle Jerry had a fuel oil delivery business up in Coos Bay, Oregon. Now Jerry was a big man, somewhere north of 300 pounds. He was a hard working man with a great sense of humor and a sharp mind. I have to say, I really miss him. Everyone should have an Uncle Jerry in their life.
Jerry had a problem: No one seemed able to remember his name. It’s hard to keep a business going if they don’t remember you. One day he overheard a couple of his customers talking. One asked the other, “Who is that guy?” The other customer said, “You know, it’s that fat boy that brings the diesel fuel.”
That struck a chord with Jerry. If that’s the way they remember me, he thought, that’s what I’ll go with. He changed his company name to Fatboy Oil Company. The name was easy to remember and it stuck. He did well with his business from then on.
When my wife Karen and I decided to start this business we had to come up with a name and it seemed natural to borrow the name from Uncle Jerry and carry on a family tradition. My brother-in-law, Ken, sketched out the beginnings of our logo on a napkin in a restaurant when we told him the name. I refined it into what it is today and then had it trademarked. Between the name, the logo, and the service, people don’t seem to forget us.
Thanks for asking!

Owner, Fatboy Electric
If you do what you’ve always done, you will get what you’ve always got. That’s A-OK for some things in life, but when it comes to commercial and industrial electrical services, we’ve found that there’s often a better way to do things.
At Fatboy Electric we strive to be visionaries. We find new ways to do the work. We imagine and create new machines to perform the daily tasks of controlling and regulating equipment and that produces simpler, more efficient ways to install your everyday equipment.
With every electrical project, we strive to do three key things:
- Save you time at installation
- Make service & troubleshooting easier
- Lower your overall operating costs
Your employees and ours deserve a safe work environment. Every installation exceeds the requirements to be considered a safe installation. Our custom controls incorporate user safety in every design.
By implementing proactive safety measures, such as emergency preparedness plans and a sound personal protective equipment policy, Fatboy is committed to consistently raising the bar when it comes to safety performance.
Our “Atta Boy” Safety Program promotes safety at all levels. With an EMR below .8 and a TRIR below 50% of the national average, the program is working to make sure our employees go home safely every day.
